Misa Telefoni Retzlaff - short forms: Misa Telefoni, Telefoni Retzlaff, real name: Hermann Theodor Retzlaff, as a writer: HT Retzlaff - ( born May 21, 1952 in Apia, Samoa ) is a Samoan politician, lawyer, manager and writer, German, Samoan and Swedish descent. Retzlaff has held several public offices at national and international level, such as the office of Vice - Director General of the WHO, which the Deputy Prime Minister (Western) Samoa and the Attorney General of the island nation. Last Retzlaff was until 2011 Vice - Prime Minister and Samoan Minister of Trade, Industry and Employment. As previously announced, he said goodbye to politics the parliamentary elections of 2011.

Family

Misa Telefoni Retzlaff is the son of Hermann Paul Retzlaff ( son of a German - Samoan mixed marriage ) and his wife Piliopo Joyce Rosabel Retzlaff (born Nelson ), a subsidiary of the successful Samoan businessman Olaf Frederick Nelson (also: Taisi Olaf ), consisting of a swedish- Samoan mixed marriage dates. A grandson Olaf Frederick Nelson is also the current Head of State of Samoa Tupuola Taisi Tufuga Efi.

Misa Telefonis paternal grandfather Erich Retzlaff was born in Stettin, and came in 1906 on behalf of the German Empire, whose colony Samoa was back in the country to build the Samoan telephone network. Since then, the Retzlaffs a Samoan tradition as the following Telefoni family are called. Misa is a Samoan matai titles, Hermann Theodor Retzlaff was awarded in 1984. He is married to Sarah Pulepule Retzlaff (born Young).

Life

Retzlaff attended King's College in Auckland in New Zealand and then the University of Auckland, where he ( and others) studied law. He completed his law studies with a Bachelor of Laws. Then Retzlaff initially worked as a lawyer in Samoa before 1986, he was appointed Attorney General of his country ( until 1988 ). 1986 Misa Telefoni was also elected to the Pro - Chancellor of the National University of Samoa (until 1998).

His political career began Retzlaff 1988, when he resigned his position as attorney general to run for a parliamentary seat in the Fono. In the first years of a opposition politician, he moved in 1991 to the ruling Human Rights Protection Party ( HRPP ) and Eti Alesana was Tofilau 1992 Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, and Marine Meteorology (until 1996 ). In later cabinets Retzlaff held the offices of Minister of Health ( 1996-2001 ), Minister of Finance (2001 to 2006) and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Employment (2006 to 2011). Between 2001 and 2011 he was Deputy Prime Minister of his country and also from 2001 to 2011 Retzlaff was also vice-chairman of his party HRPP.

On the international stage Hermann Theodor Retzlaff participated in several conferences, such as the FAO conferences between 1992 and 1996, the WHO conferences between 1996 and 2001, at the Commonwealth law conference in 1999. Worldwide offices were among others that of a Deputy Director -General of WHO in 1999, that of a "President in Office " in the ACP States (2007/ 08).
