Misael Pastrana Borrero

Misael Pastrana Borrero Eduardo ( born November 14, 1923 in Neiva, † August 21, 1997 in Bogotá ) was a Colombian lawyer and president of the country ( 1970-1974 ).

As the son of Misael Pastrana Borrero and Elisha, he studied at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and later at the Institute Ferri in Rome Jura. He became a member of the conservative party Partido Conservador Colombiano and was appointed to the Embassy of Colombia to the Holy See Mariano Ospina Pérez under the President as Secretary. Later, he was private secretary of President Pérez. His successor, Laureano Gómez Pastrana appointed ambassador to Washington, an office which Pastrana 1950-1952 perceived. From 1953 he served as Secretary General of the Foreign Minister, in the years 1954 to 1956 as the representative of his country at the United Nations. After his return to Colombia he taught at the Universidad Javeriana, 1963, he was among the founders of the Faculty of Economics and became its first dean.

Under the second liberal presidency of Alberto Lleras Camargo Pastrana Borrero was as Minister in charge of various divisions, first Minister of Development, he was responsible for public works, and finally of Finance. At the presidential election in 1962, he did not present himself as a candidate, but worked at the Celanese in a managerial capacity. From 1968 to 1970 he took over the post of ambassador to the United States. He introduced himself as a candidate for the presidency and won on April 19, 1970, with 1,625,025 votes against Rojas Pinilla with 1,561,468. His son Andrés Pastrana Arango was elected in 1998 also after the election defeat against Samper in 1994 in the subsequent election as president, Misael Pastrana what no longer was able to witness because of his death last year.
