Misery-Courtion

Courtion is a municipality in the lake district (French: District du Lac ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The community Courtion was established on 1 January 1997 merger of the previously independent municipalities Misery ( Freiburg Patois Mijeri? / I ), Courtion, Cormérod and Cournillens.

Geography

Courtion is located at 580 m above sea level. M., 9 km northwest of the capital of the canton of Fribourg (air line). The double municipality extends on a plateau east of Chandon, in the northern Molassehügelland Fribourg Mittelland.

The area of ​​11.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the over-molded by glacial Rhône glacier Molassehöhen between the Broyeebene in the northwest and the Saanen valley in the east. The main part of the area is occupied by a gently undulating plateau. This is drained to the east over the village stream of Courtepin the Sarine. To the west, several small streams flowing to the Chandon, which forms the western boundary of Courtion with its valley. In the north of the municipality of soil above the height of Mont (632 m above sea level. M. ) to the woodlands of Mont Levant (603 m above sea level. M. ) and Les Roseires enough. To the south the plateau rises against Forest Heights Bois de Cudré, Bois de la Corbaz and Bois de l' Hôpital. The highest point is 670 m above sea level. M. achieved in the Bois de la Corbaz. The community Courtion consists of the districts:

  • Misery ( German: Miserach ), 581 m above sea level. M., a former municipal area 2.3 km ² on the western edge of the plateau above the valley of the village Bach Grolley
  • Courtion ( Germanized: Curtion ), 576 m above sea level. M., a former municipal area 2.1 km ² on the western edge of the plateau above the valley of Chandon
  • Cormérod ( German: Kormerat ), 600 m above sea level. M., a former municipal area of 2.8 km ², slightly increased on the northern edge of the plateau, on the southern slopes of Mont
  • Cournillens ( German: Kurlin ), 575 m above sea level. M., a former municipal area 4.1 km ², on the plateau, at the northern foot of height Bois de la Corbaz.

Furthermore, numerous individual farms belong to the community. Neighboring communities of Courtion are Villarepos, Wall Ried, Courtepin, Barberêche, La Sonnaz Belfaux, Grolley and Léchelles in the Canton of Fribourg and Oleyres and Avenches in the canton of Vaud.

Population

With 1635 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Courtion belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 86.4% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 9.3 % and 1.1 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Courtion amounted in 1900 to 1030 inhabitants (including the now incorporated villages ). After peaking in 1920 with 1062 inhabitants, a decrease of 17 % to 886 persons was registered in the subsequent period to 1970. Only since 1980 (894 inhabitants) a significant population growth was recorded again. Especially in Misery created new living quarters. The settlements of Misery and Courtion are almost grown now.

Economy

Courtion was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including companies in the information technology, horticulture, Woodworking, Scaffolding, metal construction and a Antikschreinerei. The water power of Chandon was formerly used to power mills. In Chandontal a larger gravel pit is exploited. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Fribourg and Murten.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It lies on the road from Freiburg to Avenches. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern -Lausanne ) is located approximately 6 km from Misery away. By Bus Transports Publics Fribourgeois that leads from Freiburg to Cournillens, all the villages in the municipality are connected to the public transport network. History

The territory of Courtion was settled very early. So in Misery remains of a Roman estate and a votive tablet found in honor of Mercury. Another estate with significant mosaics was at Cormérod.

The first mention of Misery was in 1176 under the name Misirie. Even in the 12th century appeared the name Miserie, 1668 and 1781 Misiry Miseri, while the German version Miserach has survived since 1578. The place name is derived from the Gallo-Roman family names Miserius. Courtion 1138 is occupied for the first time as Cortiun. Other spellings are Cortium ( 1148 ) and Curtis Teudonis (12th century) in the meaning of the court of the Teudo.

While Misery was initially part of the rule Montagny, Courtion formed its own rule. The noble family of Courtion is mentioned in the period from the 12th to the 14th century. From 1460 both villages came into the possession of the Lords of Faucigny. 1442 came and Misery Courtion under the suzerainty of Freiburg and henceforth belonged to the Old Landscape ( Spitalpanner ). After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) were among the villages during the Helvetic Republic to the then Fribourg district of Avenches and from 1803 to the district of Freiburg, before they were incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the lake district. In Courtion 1960 test drilling for oil took place, but were unsuccessful.

In 1996, the residents of the communities decided Misery Courtion, Cormérod and Cournillens for a merger. Thus it came with effect from 1 January 1997 one of the first major municipal mergers in the Canton of Fribourg. The new church was given the double name Courtion.

Attractions

The parish of the municipality is in Courtion and is first mentioned in the 11th century. The present building dates from 1730-32, but was restored and enlarged in 1849. In Misery is the chapel of Saint -Jacques et Sébastien, which was created in 1713 on the site of an earlier building of 1482. Also in Misery is a manor house, which was built in the 18th century, but has preserved wall paintings from the old building from the late 15th century.
