Misodendron

Misodendrum (formerly also another notation: Misodendron G.Don, orth var or Myzodendron R.Br., orth var possible ) is the only plant genus of the monotypic family of Misodendraceae J.Agardh (formerly also another notation: Myzodendraceae ).

Occurrence

The home of Misodendrum species is restricted to southern South America. There, they thrive in the cool temperate climate.

Description

Misodendrum species are root parasites of Nothofagus species, accurate hemiparasite. The alternate, simple leaves are reduced in some species; in some species the leaves of flowering branches are quite different from non-flowering.

The plants are dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ). The kitten -like inflorescences are compound racemes or spikes. The male flowers do not bloom and only one stamen circle with two or three free stamens. The female flowers have three bloom and they are the three carpels fused to a partially inferior ovary. They are nut -like fruits with three long appendages (there are feathery staminodes ) that are spread by the wind.

System

The genus formerly included Misodendron twelve species today are only eight species to do so. The genus is divided into two subgenera and a total of five sections:

  • Subgenus Misodendrum: With two sections: Section heterophyllum: Misodendrum angulatum Phil
  • Misodendrum macrolepis Phil
  • Misodendrum gayanum Tiegh.
  • Misodendrum punctulatum Banks ex DC.
  • Subgenus Angelopogon ( Tiegh. ) Rossow: With three sections: Section Angelopogon: Misodendrum linearifolium DC.
  • Misodendrum Brachystachyum DC.
  • Misodendrum oblongifolium DC.
  • Misodendrum quadriflorum Dc.

Use

The plants are used for external application by rubbing with muscle pain.
