Overview

In the past, there were several organizations that have claimed the title for himself: Already in the 1920s chose a German court, the title of Miss Germany could not be protected, so that everyone is hosting a contest and could call the winner Miss Germany. A similar decision was taken in 1982. Example, in some years there were two title winners (such as 1928, 1931, 1953, 1982 and 1983), who were elected by different operators. In the 1950s, however, assured the organizer and main sponsor of the competition, the Opal hosiery works that international licenses for the Miss Europe, Miss World and Miss Universe and thus virtually a monopoly. Other organizers were unable to send international competitions their winners, so that such competition competitions were unattractive. The choice of Heidi Krüger by the Hamburger Morgenpost thus remained an exception for many years.

After the bankruptcy of the Opal hosiery works a period of decline followed due to lack of donors. '68 And women's movement protested against the "flesh ", and the public's interest declined. Only in the late 1970s found themselves financially strong operators; held by Opal international licenses had become free. First time in 1979 a Miss Germany was elected live in the German television: during the show Churning with Rudi Carrell. 1982, a competition - competition was first held back.

1985-1999 resulted in at least two organizations competing product by:

  • The MGC (MGC - Miss Germany Corporation Klemmer GmbH & Co KG, Oldenburg) of Horst Klemmer, master of ceremonies in the excretions of the 1960s, together with his son Ralf, send their winners to the competitions of the Miss World and Queen of the World. After a futile process of the Event Manager Reindl 1982 may initially neither MGC nor any other organizers claim protection for the title.
  • The Miss Germany Company held from 1985 to 1991 beauty contests: Miss Europe 1991 - Susanne Petry - came from their ranks. About this organization is out the name of the winners, nothing is known. They went bankrupt in 1992. The Miss Germany Company held - at least temporarily - the international franchises for Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Europe and Miss International, so they could send their winners or finalists for these competitions.
  • 1989 organized by the MGA ( Miss Germany Association GmbH in Bergheim near Cologne) of Detlef Tursies first time a Miss -Germany - election. The winners of the MGA take part in the elections to the Miss Universe, Miss Europe and Miss Intercontinental. They went bankrupt in 1999. Since then, the insolvency proceedings and the direct liability against the then owner runs. Tursies awards since 2000 the title of Miss Germany and has renamed his new organization also according to MGO - Committee Miss Germany.
  • Shortly before the title is replaced by exclusivity, the situation at the most chaotic is: 1999 include a third Miss Germany on - Yvonne Wölke from Berlin. In the fall of 1999, two other organizations elect their title winners for the year 2000 - Model of Germany Productions in Wiesbaden ( Miss Germany No. 4) and the MGF ( Miss Germany Foundation, Barby ) in Magdeburg, the title Miss Millennium Germany awards for a change ( since 2001, Princess of Germany).

Since 2000, the MGC is in Oldenburg sole organizer of the competition: in 1999, she manages to register as a trademark with the European Trademark Office (Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market ) in Alicante ( Spain) " Miss Germany " and thus to secure the exclusive rights. Other organizers must therefore resort to other titles from the year 2000. This also applies to the self- designations of the organizations. In addition to the MGC Miss Germany has temporarily performed Miss World Germany, German Miss World, Queen of Germany and Beauty Queen of Germany. In addition, there are still competitions for Misses Germany and Mister Germany. The MGC has ( so Miss Central, North, East Germany ), 2007 the Miss title of the 16 states (Miss Baden -Württemberg, Bavaria Miss, etc.) and the 5 regions with the European Trademark Office in Alicante.

Winners

During the Nazi regime not Miss elections were held. The Nazi government they defamed as "Jewish - Bolshevik decadence " and advocated instead the choice of ( local ) Harvest, heath and wine queens. She forbade the immediately previously selected Charlotte Hartmann the participation in the Miss Europe in Madrid. This drove yet there secretly. The fashionable and glamorous type of woman who dominated the national and international pageants, was not at the Nazi blood and soil ideology. The authorities complained that he did not embody the folklore, but merely an urban elite, internationally hardly differed from each other. So the same railed switched Berlin Illustrirte newspaper (1933, No. 24 ) on the occasion of the Miss Europe- election of 1933, however, that one could view any of the candidates, which country or people they represent. By winning the title of exiled Russian Tatiana Marlow, the racial ideologues may have felt confirmed in their decision not to allow German participants more international beauty contests. Representation way chose the Saar territory is under management of the League of Nations until 1935, a Miss, which was allowed to drive to the international competitions.

Also in the GDR Miss elections were frowned upon as a " humiliation and exploitation of women by capitalism." In the late 1980s but it came to events in East Berlin, which were disguised as cultural evenings. The winners received a cake as a prize. The first pageant was held with great participation by East German celebrities from film, television, music and sports. It was monitored by the organs of state security suspiciously, but tolerated. 1987 could already as Miss Berlin called Miss East Berlin on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the city sash decorated on SED General Secretary Erich Honecker passing parade. Even the East German television reported on it. This was followed by Miss Spring, Miss Summer, and in February 1990, in the open Berlin, a highly acclaimed by the media Miss Berlin / GDR choice, emerged from the Susanne Körbs as the winner. Support of some of these events were various cultural centers. The end of 1990 resulted in the MGC ( see above), the first and only official election for Miss DDR through. The winner Leticia Koffke was a few months later the first all- German Miss Germany.

In some years, no national pageant was held; the German representative for international competitions was then determined from the regional winners without finals, so in the years 1972 until 1978. 1971 even the term of Irene Neumann was extended by one year.
