Miss Italia

Miss Italy is a national beauty pageant for unmarried women in Italy, which is called in Germany Miss Italia. Under this name he has been held since 1946.

There were two precursors: One began in the 1920s. The name is not known. The winners took time already participated in the Miss Europe and Miss Universe. The second competition was founded in 1939 to increase awareness and sales of a toothpaste brand. He went under the name 5000 lire per un sorriso (5000 lire for a smile ). Thus the two most important parts of the competition were already mentioned: the prize and the requirement to the candidates.

After an interruption caused by the Second World War, the competition was revived under its present name.

Some participants later became known as a film actresses, including the third from 1947, Gina Lollobrigida, Silvana Mangano also, Eleonora Rossi Drago, who stood as a candidate in 1947 also, and Maria Grazia Cucinotta, which also took place 3 1987. 1996 occupied the later Bond girl Caterina Murino a fourth place.

A competition for Italians who live abroad will be organized ( in the world Miss Italy ) since 1991 under the title of Miss Italia nel Mondo.

Since 2003, the contest Miss Universo Italia for the determination of the Italian Miss Universe contestant. Promoted by the Tradeco Entertainment S.r.l. in Russi (Emilia -Romagna).

A separate competition for the best Italian participant in the Miss World has been around since 2005 under the name Miss Mondo Italia (Miss World / World Italy). It is organized by Media Group www.missmondo.it based in Leverano ( province of Lecce).
