Miss Universe

The Miss Universe contest is carried out since 1952 beauty contest. It was founded by the U.S. textile company Pacific Mills as competition to the Miss World.

History

The competition was launched after Yolande Betbèze had refused after their freestyle for Miss America 1951 for reasons of modesty, as provided by the organizers and sponsors to pose in swimsuit for photographers. One of the main sponsors of the Group Pacific Mills belonging Swimwear manufacturer Catalina, then called two separate competitions in life, in addition to the Miss USA namely also where the most beautiful woman in the world should be determined for Miss Universe.

The first choice for Miss Universe 1952 took place in Fontana (California), to the first title holder, the seventeen -year-old Finnish Armi Kuusela was named. From 1960, the show was broadcast on CBS, NBC acquired the rights in 2003.

By 1959, the competition took place in California, 1959-71 then in Miami Beach ( Florida).
