Misselwarden

Misselwarden is a member community of the Lower Saxon Samtgemeinde Wursten in the landscape Wursten in the district of Cuxhaven.

The community Misselwarden will form 1 January 2015 together with the communities Cappel, Dorum, Midlum, Mulsum, North Wood, Padingbüttel and Wremen the new community Wurster North Sea coast in the district of Cuxhaven. The Samtgemeinde Wursten is dissolved by the same date.

Geography

Misselwarden lies on the North Sea coast in the marshland between Padingbüttel, Mulsum and Wremen.

History

Misselwarden was first mentioned as a mound with the double name Midlistan - Fadarwurde to 860, together with a number of other places in the region between the Ems and Elbe, in a recording of the Archbishop Ansgar about miraculous healings at the grave Willehads.

In Misselwarden 1505 decided the Wurster arbitrariness in the headedness of the Frisians, a constitution of the country sausages.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a hanging from a beam, golden bell, in the year 1459, the year of the bell casting, is engraved on a blue background. The figure of the bell was chosen as the emblem because it is the oldest and largest bell in the country sausages.

Culture and sights

In the list of monuments in Misselwarden are registered in the list of monuments of the country district Cuxhaven monuments.

Structures

The St. Catherine's Church stands on a Kirchenwurt of the 13th century in the town center. It has the 1459 cast of Ghert Klinghe bell Gloriosa, the Misselwarden became the coat of arms of the municipality. In the church there is a 1671 manufactured by Jürgen Heitmann altar.

In Misselwarden is the old parsonage. It has been used for events. After a fire in 2010 it was rebuilt again by 2012 through donations help.
