Mississauga IceDogs

The Mississauga IceDogs was a Canadian ice hockey team from Mississauga, Ontario. The team played from 1998 to 2007 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League ( OHL ).

History

The Mississauga IceDogs were established in 1998 as a franchise of the Ontario Hockey League. After it had missed the playoffs in their first four seasons, it reached in the 2002/03 season for the first time the playoffs, where it was defeated 67 's with 1:4 games in Conference quarter-final against the Ottawa. In the following season, the IceDogs reached their greatest success when they Michael's Majors reached the finals at the J. Ross Robertson Cup after beating the Oshawa Generals, Barrie Colts and Toronto St.. In this they were subject to the Guelph Storm in the best- of-seven series in a sweep.

While Mississauga received in the 2004/05 season the Emms Trophy as the winner of the Central Division, but the team came out then no longer on the first playoff round. In 2007, the franchise of Eugene Melnyk was sold to Bill Burke, who is in St. Catharines, Ontario, resettled, where, under the name Niagara IceDogs has since been active in the OHL.
