Mississippi County (Missouri)

The Mississippi County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 14,358 inhabitants and a population density of 13.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Charleston, which was named after the landowner Charles Moore, who donated the land for the city.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme southeast of Missouri, bordering the states of Illinois and Kentucky, from which it is separated by the Mississippi River. The Mississippi County is located opposite the mouth of the Ohio River, which separates the two neighboring states of each other.

It has an area of 1111 square kilometers, of which 41 square kilometers are water surface.

History

The Mississippi County was formed in 1845. It was named after the Mississippi River, which limits the County to the east.
