Mistassibi River

Mistassibi River is a river in central Quebec, Canada.

It has a length of 298 km and a catchment area of ​​9325 km ². It has its origin in an area of nameless lakes about 50 km east of the Canso Bay of Lac Albanel, an eastern Nachbarsee of Lac Mistassini.

The name " Mistassibi " only since the end of the 19th century, in use, is derived from the Innu language and means " big river ". An alternative flow name was Rivière aux Foins.

Just as the adjacent Rivière Mistassini, the Rivière Mistassibi runs in a north -south direction. It flows through this lake Lac au foin. Its tributaries include Rivière aux Oiseaux, Rivière du Deposit and Mistassibi Rivière Nord-Est. The Rivière Mistassibi finally joins up with Mistassini, District of Dolbeau Mistassini -, in the Rivière Mistassini.

Hydropower plants

The company Minashtuk Inc. operates since 2000 a 12 MW power plant on the river Rivière Mistassibi.
