Mistress Branican

Mistress Branican (also Mrs. Branican ) is a novel by the French writer Jules Verne. The novel was first published as a book in 1891 by the publisher Pierre -Jules Hetzel under the French title Mistress Branican, namely Volume I on August 3, 1891, Volume II on November 9, 1891. A preliminary list was published in Magasin d' Éducation et de Récréation in Volume 53 and 54 from 1 January to 15 December 1891., the first German-language edition was published in 1891 under the title of Mrs. Branican. The English title of the novel is Mistress Branican.

Action

In March 1875 the sailing ship Franklin leaves under his captain John Branican the Port of San Diego in California. His target is the Indian Calcutta, but after many months there from the ship whose crew and no sign of life. The ship finally goes with his team lost. The young wife of the captain, the twenty- year-old Dolly Branican, which refuses to accept, however. She has already undergone heavy in her young life. Her son Wat died in a shipwreck and she is close to death. The hope that her husband is still alive, it keeps itself alive. She lives several years in mental derangement and brings her second son Godfrey to the world, from which it is separated, however, and the existence of which they know nothing. With the money from an inheritance of her uncle she financed several search expeditions. She is convinced to find her husband John. After several years, there is still no sign of John. Then, however, she learns that the natives should hold caught her husband in Australia. The greatest danger in the search expedition comes from the man of Jane's cousin Dolly. Len Burker has killed before John and Dolly, to come to their inheritance. But at the end of life John and Dolly but Len and Jane die. John and Dolly are reunited and learn from Jane before her death, that Godfrey is her son. The Branican family is reunited and everything turns out well.
