Mitchell's Fold

Mitchell 's Fold is a stone circle in Shropshire in England. It is 300 meters high, on the Stapeley Hill in the hills east of Chirbury, near the border with Wales. It was built in the Bronze Age between 2000-1400 BC.

Description

The former consists of 30 stone circle, of which only 14 have survived, has about 27 m in diameter. Most of the stones are less than a meter high. The largest reach almost two meters. In and around the circle run low walls. Your relationship to the circle is unknown.

From the circle one has a good view of the Stiperstones in the east. The Hoarstone circle, also known as Marsh pool or Black Marsh circle, is 2.5 km away.

Legends

One of the stones to be a petrified witch. Your fossilization is related to the legend of a Wunderkuh that anyone who came by with a vessel, gave milk until the vessel was full. However, the witch came with a sieve and milked the cow until it was no more milk. For this she was punished. The stone circle to have been built by the people to the witch, to prevent them from escaping. A representation of this legend has been carved into the 1879 capital of a sandstone pillar of Middleton church near the Stapeley Hill by Rev. Waldegrave Brewster.

It is also recorded that King Arthur his sword Excalibur pulled out one of the stones to become king of Britain.
