Mitchell Cary Alford

Mitchell Cary Alford (* July 10, 1855 in Fayette County, Kentucky; † December 9, 1914 ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1895 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Kentucky.

Career

Mitchell Alford attended the Kentucky University until 1877, from then the Transylvania University emerged. After a subsequent law degree from the same university in 1879 and was admitted to his lawyer, he began working in a law firm in his profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. He first held a local office in the county administration of Fayette County. After that he was in Lexington judge of the recorder 's Court Then he was elected to the Senate from Kentucky, where he first chairman of the Budget Committee was. Later he headed the railway committee.

1891 Alford was elected to the side of John Young Brown as Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky. This post he held 1891-1895. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was for several years chairman of the State Democrats for Kentucky. He was co-founder and then president of the First National Bank of Middlesboro. He also held shares in a hotel in Lexington, for which he also controlled the finances. He died on 9 December 1914.
