Mithun Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty (actually Gouranga Chakraborty; Bengali: মিঠুন চক্রবর্তী, Mithun Cakrabartī; born June 16, 1950 in Calcutta, West Bengal, India) is an Indian film actor and dancer of Hindi film. He played in more than 250 Bollywood films and numerous other Indian productions, including in the languages Bengali, Oriya and Bhojpuri.
Life
After visiting the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune Chakraborty had his first starring role in Mrinal Sen political film Mrigaya (1976). For his portrayal of a young native hunter in the 1930s in Orissa, he was equal with a National Film Award in the category " Best Actor " award. Early in his career Chakraborty scored on political and historically committed films such as KA Abbas ' The Naxalites (1979 ) concerning the Naxalites and student movements of the 70s or Bapu Feudaldrama Hum Paanch (1980).
In the 1980s he established his image as Love and Action hero in film production medium budget and was considered by producers as a cheaper variant Amitabh Bachchan, but also safe investment. A wide audience he won for himself in the role of street dancer Subhash Ghai with Jimmi office successes Disco Dancer (1983) and Dance Dance (1987 ) both in the domestic as well as the USSR and Turkey. Chakraborty starred in JP Dutta's Ghulami (1985 ) on the side of Dharmendra and - as so often in the 80s 70s and early years - Smita Patil, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Naseeruddin Shah. In the late 80s he was as a second lead actor alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Manmohan Desai's Ganga Jamuna Saraswati (1988) and Mukul Anand's Agneepath (1990 ) were used.
Directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, he played in Tahader Katha (1992 ) and received his second National Film Awards from a total of three.
Chakraborty is an entrepreneur and owner of the Monarch Group, which is engaged in the hotel and catering industry. He is also known for his commitment to social issues; he helped establish the Bengal Football Academy. He is married to actress Yogeeta Bali and has three children.
