Mito Hollyhock

Mito Hollyhock (Japanese水戸 ホーリー ホック, Mito Hōrīhokku ) is a Japanese football club from Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture. There have traditionally been a weak team, the team has developed an outstanding defensive play, which is often referred to as " Mito - nachio " (based on the Catenaccio tactics ). This is also a pun on the local specialty Mito natto. Meanwhile, Mito, however, also offensive qualities in order to be attractive to sponsors.

History

The club was founded in 1990 as prima Aseno FC of workers in the food company Prima Ham Tsuchiura. In 1996, the club changed its name to Prima Ham Tsuchiura FC and rose the first time in the then second-rate JFL. With FC Mito was founded in 1994 merged Prima Ham after the company their financial support no longer wanted to continue. The new club was named Mito Hollyhock before the start of the 1997 season.

Mitos request to be allowed to play in the neugegründeteten J. League Division 2, was established in 1999 initially rejected due to volatile financial support and lack of fan base. A year later succeeded by a third in the Japan Football League and the rising regional support in 2000 but still the rise in the second division.
