The Mitsubishi FTO is a sports coupe with front-wheel drive, which was produced from 1994 to 2000 by Mitsubishi Motors.
Originally, the Mitsubishi FTO was planned exclusively for the Japanese market, but its popularity as a gray market import to the UK and Australia meant that the model was officially offered by the local importers in limited numbers later.
FTO stands for " Fresh Touring Origination ", and Mitsubishi described it as "a touring model overflowing with freshness, youthfulness, [ and] originality". The name had already been used in 1971 for the Galant FTO Coupe, one of the first Mitsubishi sports coupes.
