Mitsubishi Galant Lambda

The Mitsubishi Sapporo is a coupe (or a convertible ) that was offered from 1975 to 1983 by Mitsubishi Motors in Europe. It was based on the Mitsubishi Galant.

Sapporo (1975-1980)

The term was introduced in 1975 for the third generation of the Galant, which was sometimes referred to as Mitsubishi Galant Σ (Sigma ) Coupé version introduced. The vehicle was sold only in Europe and South America as the Mitsubishi Sapporo, in most other markets, said the car Mitsubishi Galant Λ ( Lambda ). In addition, the car was also marketed by the Chrysler Group in North America as a Plymouth Sapporo and Dodge Challenger, in Australia as the Chrysler Scorpion and later there as Mitsubishi Scorpion. The vehicle was in Europe as "GL" version ( A121 ) with 1.6 -liter engine, as " GL / S" and " GS / R " version ( A123 ) with 2.0 -liter engine and disc brakes all around available. The 1.6-liter engine had a 4- speed manual transmission. The " GL / S version was equipped with a 3- speed automatic transmission. The top model " GS / R " was delivered with a 5 -speed manual transmission and provided with the" 4G52GS "engine 108PS. A special feature of this engine were two counter-rotating balance shafts, which cancel the secondary vibrations of the engine, thus ensuring a very low vibration.

In 1980, the model with the model change of the Galant sedan to the fourth generation, as this produced until 1983. The most powerful model ( A164 ) developed now, thanks to turbocharged 170PS.

With the ensuing transition to the fifth generation model, the coupe was discontinued, but the sports car Mitsubishi Starion came on the market.

1982 there was also still a small series of 350 copies of the Sapporo convertible.
