The Central Hesse Express is a common train concept of the Rhine -Main Transport Association ( RMV) and DB Regio AG on the Main- Weser Railway and the dill route, which was taken as new timetable of Deutsche Bahn on 10 December 2006.

Current status

Since 11 December 2011, the route network after a new tender for twelve years schedule by DB Regio Hessen GmbH, a newly formed wholly-owned subsidiary of DB Regio AG, operated. As vehicles come railcars of the type of manufacturer Bombardier Talent 2 used, whose commissioning, but was delayed. This includes the line 33 Hanau- Friedberg, formerly of the Hessian State Railways ( HLB) operated, which again in one hand with the line 30 Friedberg- Giessen and is therefore no longer needs to be broken in Friedberg. The timetable change 2012/2013 the new Talent 2 railcars were not used as planned. As of March 9, 2013, the first Talent 2 railcars were used on the track casting - Hanau. Since April 2013, the Talent 2 railcars operating on the route Dillenburg / Treysa -Frankfurt. On the route Gießen- Friedberg- Hanau, the 425 series was used until mid- November 2013, now (as of December 2013), the entire network is operated with the new trains of the type Talent 2.

Route

The Central Hesse Express runs on the routes Treysa - Giessen- Frankfurt (SE 30) and Dillenburg - Giessen- Frankfurt (SE 40). The coming of Treysa and Dillenburg trains are coupled together usually in casting and ride together to the rest of the way. In the opposite direction the trains are correspondingly separated into casting. On Sundays and on Saturday afternoon, the outflanking of the trains is not required. On the section of track shared the Central Hesse Express stops at the stations Frankfurt-West, Friedberg, Bad Nauheim and Butzbach. As of the 2010 schedule keep the Central Hesse Express trains at two- hour intervals in Bad Vilbel and at bus stops, which previously served only the regional trains between Giessen and Friedberg.

Rolling stock

The two draft parts of Central Hesse Express each consisting of an electric railcars of Class 425 to Rush Hour also trains of two units (or three between Giessen and Frankfurt) are used. Partly also operate individually or together with the shorter 425 series railcars of Class 426

Some of the vehicles were previously used on the routes Kassel- Eichenberg -Göttingen - Bebra and oak mountain Göttingen, where the train services were taken over by the cantus traffic mbH. Other vehicles were taken from Bavaria. For their new use, they were provided with the inscription Central Hesse Express.

For the accommodate wheelchairs board lifts are available near the cab.

Traffic

The Central Hesse Express runs every hour during the week, from Saturday afternoon only every two hours. Then alternately run a train on Marburg to Treysa and a train over Wetzlar to Dillenburg. In casting a stay of three to seven minutes is provided (depending on the destination and direction ) cupola for operations. In Treysa a change to the following regional express or Intercity is intended for the onward journey to Kassel. The length of stay is 11 minutes to the Regional Express, while it is increased in the intercity from the original 4 to 34 minutes. A shift to the next RegioTram is rather unattractive for a stay of 23 or 31 minutes. In Dillenburg continue by RE to Siegen is possible after 15 minutes stay. In the middle of Hesse- concept, although the connection to the secondary regional trains is provided, but in the current implementation these are just missed. With the redesign of the roadmap within the tendering of the diesel power Westerwald / Eifel / win, but the objective of integrating the RB- line Dillenburg victories followed.

Historical situation

Before Mittelhessen concept wrong during the week through regional trains on the route Dillenburg - casting -Kassel. It was trains with three cars, which were covered with locomotives of the class 141 or class 143. In the sections Dillenburg - Giessen and Marburg - Treysa these regional trains were canceled. Between Giessen and Marburg run single regional trains to the previous schedule ( with locomotives of the series 110 ), while the trains between Treysa and Kassel were replaced by the so-called RegioTram.

Travelers on the Main- Weser Railway could switch from the regional trains to the south of Kassel virtually unchanged trains running regional express trains or Intercity in casting, the transfer time was only five minutes. In Dillenburg every two hours was a convenient transit traffic in regional express trains to Siegen.

Other changes

Before perverted in a similar timetable status as the Central Hesse Express Regional-Express-/Stadt-Express-Züge following:

  • RE 40 Frankfurt- Giessen- Siegen: These trains have been moved in the roadmap, as well as the RE Giessen- Siegen- Aachen.
  • SE 30 Frankfurt- Marburg ( sometimes up Treysa ): This was to double-decker trains that served a large part of the stations between Friedberg and Marburg usually. These were replaced by the Central Hesse Express, which resulted due to the lower transport capacity to space problems.

Objectives

The RMV would like to achieve with the Mittelhessen concept the following objectives:

  • Mittelhessen to be better connected to the Rhine- Main area. The Mittelhessen concept offers more connections to Frankfurt. Many stops between Dillenburg - Treysa get first service to Frankfurt.
  • A more uniform utilization of the trains. This involves on the one hand about to shift capacity of the routes Dillenburg - casting and casting Treysa favor of Giessen- Frankfurt, on the other hand, to avoid the very different utilization of regional express and regional trains.
  • A half-hour regional train - clock in the rush hour between Dillenburg and pouring and pouring and Marburg. However, this is not evident in the current implementation.

Criticism

The main problems of Central Hesse Express are:

  • The trains are crowded in the rush hour, as the triple maximum traction used by multiple units of the 425 series can not offer a space as in earlier trains running double-deck trains.
  • The trains are generally criticized as not fit for long trips and uncomfortable, so are about the seats of the double-decker cars previously used a little softer and the distance of the so-called Vis -à -Vis seating is smaller than in the double -decker trains.

Other problems include:

  • The availability of trains covered in rush hour does not match the demand. Thus, the Central Hesse Express afternoon on the stretch Frankfurt- casting is the cheapest connection, whereas double-deck trains with greater capacity use less high-demand stations. Stations such as Marburg, Kirchhain and Stadtallendorf can be achieved in the afternoon from Frankfurt -west from just over larger distances to often entertaining or to slow trains or detour connections.
  • On the stretch of casting - Treysa afternoon train pairs run with almost the same hold at a distance of ten minutes instead of a combination of a train with little holding and a train that stops everywhere.
  • The connections between Marburg and served not by regional express trains stations in the section Treysa -Kassel deteriorate significantly.
  • In Dillenburg the connections could not be made to the secondary regional railways.
  • In casting, there is no connection to the secondary bird mountain railway.
  • There are deviations from the clock in the afternoon schedule, which can lead to longer travel times ( for example, the ends at 12:31 clock in Frankfurt departing Central Hesse Express in Marburg).
  • With the timetable change in December 2009, all two hours lengthened the driving time from Frankfurt to Giessen / Treysa / Dillenburg by 20 minutes.
