Geography

Geographical Location

Mitterkirchen lies in the region Landshut in a small, gentle valley of the Rott on the border of Upper Bavaria. Mitterkirchen is located directly on the B 588 about 7 km southwest of Eggenfelden, 18 km north Altöttings, 23 km north-east of Mühldorf and 22 kilometers southwest of the county town parish churches. The nearest railway station on the route Passau - Mühldorf is in Eggenfelden.

There are the districts Hirschhorn, Mitterkirchen and Hammerbach.

History

Mitterkirchen belonged to Rentamt Landshut and the district court Eggenfelden of the Electorate of Bavaria. The Baroness by Inge Heim, born of Closen to -be and Arnstorf, had here in 1800 an open Hofmark. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, a part of the community Hirschhorn was incorporated. On May 1, 1978, added the smaller part of the dissolved municipality Hammerbach.

Economy, agriculture and forestry
