Mittlach

Mittlach is a commune with 341 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Communauté de communes de la Vallée de Munster.

Geography

Mittlach is located at the headwaters of the fencing near the Vosges ridge. The municipality belongs to the district of Mittlach -le-Haut. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

History

In 1571 Mittlach was mentioned under the name Mitla the first time. In the 16th and 17th century woodcutter from Switzerland and Austria immigrated. The importance of the timber industry is evident in the design of the coat of arms, which has been operational since 1977.

1789 Metzeral was assigned Mittlach the community. Only since April 1, 1908, the city is an independent municipality again. 1911 was built the council and school house ( mairie - école ), 1927, the Church of the Immaculate Conception ( Église de l' Immaculée - Conception ) was consecrated.
