Mittraphap Road

Thanon Mittraphap ( Thai ถนน มิตรภาพ - "Road of Friendship" or National Road No. 2 - Thang Luang Phaen Din May Lek 2 ทางหลวง แผ่นดิน หมายเลข 2, in English usage " Friendship Highway ", or Thailand Route 2 ) in addition to the Thanon Phahonyothin, Thanon Sukhumvit and Thanon Phetkasem one of the four major highways in Thailand. It was created by the United States in the 1960s and 70s, to improve the supply during the Vietnam War.

Road

The expressway is 559.5 km long and starts in Saraburi, via Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and ends today in Nong Khai at the Thai - Lao Friendship Bridge on the Mekong. In the 1990s, the highway No. 2 was widened to four lanes. Thanon Mittraphap is part of the Asian Highway AH12 and is the most important road in the northeast region ( Isan ) and Laos.
