The Miyako language (self- designation: / mja ː kufucy / ,ミャークフツMyāku - futsu; jap宫 古 方言Miyako- Hōgen " Miyako dialect " ) belongs to the Ryukyu languages and is spoken in the Miyako Islands in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa.
Differences is the Miyako- language nor in the Miyako dialect on Miyako- jima, the Irabu dialect on Irabu -jima and the taramas dialect on taramas -shima. The latter differs most clearly, due to the distance to the two other islands (50 or 45 km).
It differs from other regional languages both lexically (probably also due to the geographical proximity to Taiwan) significantly and in the debate, for example, is / mi / and / mu / beginning of a word to / n /:
- Mukashi (昔) → / nkja ː n / (ンキャーン)
- Migi (右) → / NGY / (ンギィ)
The language is completely incomprehensible for both the speaker on Okinawa spoken language (ウチナーグチUchina -guchi ) and for speakers of languages spoken on the Japanese home islands language.
