The Mkomazi National Park is a national park in Tanzania. It consists of the two game reserves Mkomazi ( 2010 km ²) and Umba ( 1224 km ²), but it was only in 2008 officially recognized after he had previously already existed as a nature reserve.

The area is located in northeastern Tanzania Kilimanjaro and Tanga in the regions, six kilometers from the town of Same, about 300 kilometers from Kilimanjaro. The national park is directly adjacent to the Kenyan National Park Tsavo West, thus comprises a total of more than 3000 km ².

Flora and Fauna

The vegetation consists of typical savannah, which is bordered by the Usambara and Pare Mountains. The predominant tree is the acacia.

The rhino conservation project in this area is very well known, but the animals are safe from poaching under wraps. Tourists are allowed to visit the rhinos. With a little luck you can see in the area of ​​Mkomazi National Park, elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, giraffes and African wild dogs.
