Mlynky

Mlynky is a municipality in Okres Ves ( Košice kraj ) in eastern Slovakia, with a population of 571 (as at 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the upper valley of the river Hnilec, with a small share of the reservoir Palcmanská Masa, between the mountains Volovské Hills in the south and the Slovak Paradise in the north. Mlynky is 26 kilometers from Ves and 38 kilometers from Rožňava. Neighboring municipalities are: Dedinky, Dobšiná, Hnilec, Smižany and Ves.

History

Today's church was built in 1960 by the merger of the following places, which were removed from the city Ves: Biele Vody ( German white water), Havrania Dolina ( German Rabe soaps), Mlynky, Palcmanská Masa ( German Palzmannshütte ) Prostredný Hámor, Rakovec ( German Cancer soaps ) and Sykavka.

In the former mines of iron and copper ore was promoted. Beginning of the 19th century built the family Palzmann in the district Palcmanská Masa a blast furnace and a hammer mill. 1843, the company was sold to the Coburg family. All mines were incorporated after nationalization in 1948 to the newly founded company Železorudné bane in Ves. The mines have since 1966 but decommissioned. To date, however, the coat of arms is reminiscent of the mining industry. Today, the community is based on tourism, both in winter ( ski resorts Biele Vody and Cowl, trails) and in summer (reservoir Palcmanská Masa, National Park Slovak Paradise ).
