Moanda

Province

Moanda (also Mouanda ) is a city in the province of Haut - Ogooué in southeastern Gabon. With approximately 37,000 inhabitants ( 2008 calculation ), it is the fifth largest city in the country. Moanda location is one of the largest manganese mines in the world. The manganese deposits in the vicinity of the city were discovered in 1938, the commercial use began in 1951. 's Present capacity of the mine is about three million tons per year. It is assumed that the reserves for another 60 to 70 years range. Moanda has an airfield, two hospitals and several schools.
