Mob Rules (Album)

Occupation

  • Vocals: Ronnie James Dio
  • Guitar: Tony Iommi
  • Bass: Geezer Butler
  • Drums: Vinny Appice
  • Keyboard, Synthesizer: Geoff Nichols

Mob Rules is the tenth studio album by the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. It is the second album with vocalist Ronnie James Dio. It was recorded in the Record Plant Studios, headed by Martin Birch.

Background

Musically, the album from its predecessor Heaven and Hell differs in that it is not as bombastic and majestic sounds, but a more aggressive sound has. Nevertheless, the album has sold almost as many times as Heaven and Hell: In Britain, it reached number # 12 on the charts in the U.S. and ranked # 29

The cover artwork, drawn by Greg Hildebrant, shows several masked, poor-looking figures in front of a stone wall with red paint on the band and album name are drawn. Rumor has it that at the bottom of the people the word " Kill Ozzy " was drawn into the stone tile joints. Whether this is intentional, however, is questionable, especially since it denies Greg Hildebrant itself.

Some CD releases have a different back cover, there appears a different track list and the design is slightly different from the original.

Title list

All songs were written by Butler, Iommi, Dio and Appice.

Song Info

E5150 is a code word for " Evil". If you change the Arabic numerals to Roman numerals, this would indicate = 5 V, 1 = I and 50 = L. The songs Mob Rules and E5150 are also on the soundtrack of the movie Heavy Metal. The band, The Sign of the Southern Cross took its name from the eponymous song on the album.

Singles

  • The title track was coupled out and was able to place in the UK at # 46 on the charts.
  • In America, published voodoo and Turn up the Night as singles. Both were placed in the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts.
