Mobad

A Mobed or Mobad is a Zoroastrian priest who is against the Ervad that received only the first stage of the consecration, entitled to the religious ceremony of the Yasna, the most important religious ceremony of Zoroastrians. A Mobed also has the right to train clergy.

The word comes from the Middle Persian Mobed. It originated from the compound magu - pati ( master ), magush in Old Persian, in Ancient Greek μάγος magos, from which the Latin magus ( magician ) has emerged.
