The Mobile Network Code is used to identify a GSM, UMTS or TETRA network provider and awarded independently by each country. This in Germany, the Federal Network Agency is responsible, in Switzerland OFCOM takes over this function, in Austria the broadcasting and telecommunications regulatory GmbH is responsible.

The MNC is a part of the IMSI, the PLMN - id and the LAI. The MNC is referred to in TETRA networks than T- MNC ( TETRA MNC).

Germany

It is important to distinguish between the MNC, to a mobile phone network together with the MCC for identification, ie to the formation of the PLMN identifier used ( in the table in the column " for PLMN " or bold), and further, a network operator allocated MNCs, however, are used only for the generation of IMSIs.

The gaps in the MNC - list are occupied by non-public identifiers ( eg Bundeswehr ). There also exist local test networks, but use the MNCs that have not been awarded by the Federal Network Agency.
