MobileHCI

The ACM Conference on Human - Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices and Services ( MobileHCI ) is a scientific conference series, which deals with the interaction between humans and computers in a mobile context. It is generally regarded as the most prestigious conference in the field of mobile human-computer interaction. 2006 rated the Australian Association of Computing Research and Education Association of Australasia Conference as the first class ( A class ) and had an acceptance rate of 25%. The MobileHCI is organized by ACM SIGCHI, a Special Interest Group, which deals with human-machine interaction and ACM SIGMOBILE, which deals with the mobility of systems, users, data, and computing. The MobileHCI taken place annually since 1998.

History

The MobileHCI series began in 1998 as an independent workshop on human-computer interaction with mobile devices. It was organized by Chris Johnson at the University of Glasgow. The following year, the workshop was held in conjunction with the conference Interact and organized by Stephen Brewster and Mark Dunlop. In 2001, the MobileHCI was organized again by Brewster and Dunplop in conjunction with a major conference, this year in conjunction with the IHM- HCI, Lille, France.

In 2002, the MobileHCI was aligned as an independent symposium independent of a major conference of Fabio Paternò in Pisa. The following year, she organized Luca Chittaro in Udine, Italy. In 2004, the MobileHCI was again Brewster and Dunlop aligned at the University of Strathclyde. In the following years the conference in Austria, Finland and Singapore was held.

The MobileHCI 2008 was organized by Henri ter Hofte and Ingrid Mulder Telematica Instituut in the Netherlands. It took place in Amsterdam in Kongresszemntrum of the Royal Tropical Institute. MobileHCI 2009 by Reinhard Oppermann of Fraunhofer Institute was organized for Applied Information Technology. It took place in Bonn in the main building of the university. The 12th MobileHCI 2010 conference was held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 7 - 10th September under the motto of a mobile world for all and was organized by Marco de Sá and Luís Carriço of the University of Lisbon. MobileHCI 2011 will be held in Stockholm, organized by the Mobile Life Centre.

Topics

In the early days of the conference series given topics compared to the following years were not very specific. Over time, the list of given topics was comprehensive and detailed. Issues that are considered relevant since the beginning until today, for example, acoustic and speech-based interaction, the design of web pages for mobile devices, evaluation techniques for mobile devices and services, and multimodal user interfaces. Over the years, other topics were added. Examples include wearable computing, mobile and social networks, studies investigating since 2008 in the list of topics that the use of mobile devices by special user groups.

Workshops

In advance of the conference will focus on specific topics since 2002 workshops organized. In order to participate in a workshop must be submitted usually posts will be presented during the workshop. At a workshop take part mostly around 20 people. In addition to these presentations, discussions will be given much more space than during the actual conference. Successfully completed workshops were often repeated in the following years. Examples are the workshops HCI in Mobile Guides, Mobile Interaction with the Real World ( MIRW ) and the Workshop on Speech in Mobile and Pervasive Environments ( SimPE ).
