History

Mobistar was founded as a joint venture between Orange and Telinfo International 1996. In 2000, France Telecom took over the English Orange Group and used since the brand name "Orange " for almost all of their mobile networks. As part of this acquisition France Telecom also acquired shares in the Mobistar competitors ' KPN Orange ". Due to the resulting double - participation in the Belgian mobile market, France Télécom separated by " KPN Orange" and transferred in the same year its 50% stake in KPN. For this reason, Mobistar today means not "Orange" as most of its sister companies. From " KPN Orange" was because of trademark issues BASE. Mobistar is now part of Orange Groupe.

In addition to Mobistar in Belgium there two other Carrier:

  • BASE (since 1998, 2.358 million customers, is part of KPN ) and
  • Proximus (since 1994, 4,311,436 customers, is part of the Belgacom group).

At Mobistar also the " no-frills " belongs prepaid provider "Simply by Mobistar ." Mobistar provides its network and the Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize for their prepaid service available.

Mobistar has 1585 employees ( 31-12-2010 ).
