Moclinejo

Moclinejo is a Spanish municipality in the province of Málaga in Andalusia. It is located 20 kilometers from Málaga between the " Cerros de Córdoba " and " Piedra Blanca " at 450 meters altitude in the Axarquia, the easternmost part of the province of Malaga.

The surroundings of Moclinejo is characterized by steep slopes and many gorges, such as the entire territory of the Montes de Malaga. The land is dry, rugged and very steep. The village Moclinejo located on hills of the Piedras Blancas and opens to the valley of Benagalbón. It is surrounded by olive, almond trees and wines. Moclinejo is located on the " Rosinenstrasse " ( " La Ruta de la Pasa " ) and sometimes is called " gate to the Rosinenstrasse. Raisin, wine and grapes are the main products of the area.

History

The time before the Arabs rule is not documented. It is believed that Moclinejo is an Arab foundation. The name probably comes from " Moclin ", Arabic for " place area ". In the chronicles of the 15th and 16th century it is mentioned as Moclinetum, Mohinete, Modinete, Molinete and molinillo. The Christian troops of the commander of Antequera, General Don Pedro Enriquez, suffered a bloody defeat here in 1482 in the fight against the Muslims.

The Muslims took refuge in a castle and saw their property rise in flames. They came from your hiding places and pelted the Christian troops with tree trunks and stones. The troops of Alfonso de Aguilar was so damaged that it Moclinejo in the district are still a gorge named " Hoya de los Muertos " ( the case of death ) today. After the victory of the Christians over the Arabs of the economic decline began. In the last century the economic ( "Again ") was boom interrupted by the appearance of phylloxera. The area recovered slowly and the wine and raisin production are still the main source of income of Moclinejo.
