Modern Toilet

Modern Toilet is a restaurant chain which currently has twelve branches in Taiwan and Hong Kong, whose premises are thematically designed as bathrooms and their typical Asian dishes are served in miniature toilets and urinals.

Concept

Everything in the restaurants based on bathroom counter booths. The checkerboard- like arrangement of wall tiles are decorated with shower heads, suction cups hanging from the ceiling and the lighting is inspired by the form of feces. Visitors sit on chairs repurposed to real toilets at tables whose glass panels are held by sinks. The food itself are authentically prepared and served in miniature toilet bowls made ​​of plastic. The drinks come in miniature urinals, the home can be used by visitors as souvenirs on the table. The owner of the chain, Wing - Zi Wei, a former banker, was inspired for his concept in his own words from the Japanese robot cartoon character Jichiwawa. Wing Zi - Wei first started doing successfully in their own store with the sale of ice cream, which he served from paper into small squat toilets. This way of serving ice cream and was also maintained in the later founded Modern Toilet restaurants. In Taiwan, self catering is not uncommon with unusual themes concepts, other restaurant concepts are based, for example, prisons or hospitals.
