Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut

Modes ʿ in (Hebrew מודיעין [ mɔdi'ʔin ], Arabic موديعين, DMG Mudi ʿ īn ) is a city in Israel. It is located in the central district and counted the end of 2002 almost 35,000 inhabitants. According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, the population reached 76,500 inhabitants in April 2005.

Modes in ʿ maintains a twinning with Hagen in Westphalia and also maintains a youth exchange with the community Ammerthalstrasse in the Bavarian Upper Palatinate.

Location

Modes in ʿ lies at the foot of the Judean Mountains, 300 meters above sea level, halfway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, 15 minutes from Ben Gurion Airport. The city is situated on the edge of the West Bank, at the so-called Green Line, and has expanded in recent years beyond this limit (modes ʿ in illite ). Formerly the country was one of five Palestinian villages: Ni'lin, Kharbata, Saffa, Bil'in and you qadis.

To the north is the mountain of Samaria, in the south the fertile Shephelah level.

Nearby was the biblical Modein / Modin, the home of Mattathias, the father of Judas Maccabeus, the progenitor of the Hasmonean kings of Judah (1 Macc 2,15 EU). However, the exact location of the ancient settlement is not known.

Planning concept

The planned city modes ʿ in is built on a concept that is derived from its topography:

  • The residential areas are on the many hills of the city.
  • The valleys ( " Nechalim " in Hebrew ) are green areas, where schools, sports fields, small shopping centers, etc. are built. There also run the main traffic arteries.
  • High-rise buildings are permitted only on the hilltops.
  • The initial topography is not changed; the city adapt to it.
  • The houses on the slopes are terraced.

Population

The modern modes ʿ in is so new that it is not found on many cards. The first settlers moved to 1996; the target planning provides a number of 240,000 inhabitants before, with "clean" industry and a lot of grassland. If the planned population is reached, modes ʿ will be one of the largest cities of Israel.

According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS ), the population consisted of 2001 43.8 % of persons 0-19 years, 12.5% of 20 - to 29 -year-olds to 31.9% of 30 - to 44 - year-olds to 8.0% of 45 - to 59 -year-olds to 1.4% of 60 - to 64 -year-olds and 2.3% of 65 year olds and older people. The population growth rate in 2001 was 13.5 %.
