Modiolus the scientific name for the genus of horse mussels, the family of the mussels ( Mytilidae ) is heard. The family Mytilidae even turn forms part of the order of the mussel -like ( Mytiloida ) within the class of mussels ( Bivalvia ).

Name

The term modiolus derives from the diminutive of the Latin term modius, which is called a bushel. So literally translated means Scheffelchen modiolus.
