Location of the former and the resettled village Mödrath in the Rhenish lignite mining area

Mödrath is a district of Kerpen in the Rhine -Erft in North Rhine -Westphalia. The site was relocated due to the lignite mining Frechen in 1956, as the old place was in the mining area. The current district closes just northeast of the city center at Kerpen.

History

Alt- Mödrath

The original town of Mödrath (Alt - Mödrath ) was destroyed by the mining Frechen. Alt- Mödrath was settled there, where today the Marienfeld is the Pope's Hill. At the time, lived about 2,800 people in Old Mödrath. From Alt - Mödrath is only the so-called castle Mödrath left. It was built in 1830 as a representative stucco building with a hipped roof. The plan of the associated parks is said to come from Peter Joseph.

( New ) Mödrath

Due to the relocation of Old Mödrath to its present location Mödrath lost its original character and many residents. Many of the resettled residents were in favor of a settlement of the new town in a nearby field, but the place was connected directly to the district of Kerpen.

Incorporation

On January 1, 1975, the municipality Mödrath was incorporated into the city of Kerpen.
