Action

The young topologist Daniel Pratt will be inaugurated by the Director of the underground society of Buenos Aires, Marcos Biasi, in a mysterious secret: A whole train - the metro number 86 - has all but vanished, along with the passengers. At the same time some signals go haywire, sometimes report a train where no one is, and thereby block its route network. Since the route network by numerous extensions - especially of a new ring road - has become so complex that the engineers, it himself no longer overlook, is the topologist the train come through the study of the plans of the last extension on the ropes to representatives of the mayor, the have announced the visit for the late evening, to offer an explanation.

First, Pratt tries to find the plans with the city archives, there he is, however, confronted with the fact, a certain Hugo Mistein, allegedly members of the metro project had, the plans stolen. Pratt recognizes Mistein his former mathematics professor. Once he spied at the University of his address, he goes to the apartment of Mistein, where it meets only a young girl, Abril, which gives him after some resistance to the apartment entrance and lets him have his way in his quest for the plans.

On the desk of the professor he discovered the plans and a seemingly absurd theory: Some systems might behave like a Möbius strip with a certain complexity. The subway is located according to this theory is still within the route network, but it arrived on the circle line on the other side of the tape, which is why they could not be seen from outside. However, you could return via the circle line at any time in the system. At the meeting in the evening with the director and the city leaders he can finally actually confirm this theory when he hears the train go by itself in a station without that he would be seen. However, the Director and the city leaders give his remarks no faith.

Although Biasi no longer takes him seriously after this meeting and is no longer interested in his help, Pratt makes the phenomenon no rest. He tries on the basis of the theory of Mistein, the departure times of the subway and the details of the subway network to find out the location at which the train is excreted back on the visible side of the Mobius strip. When he looks at it one of the tunnels closer, he is nearly run over by a suddenly approaching subway. Exasperated, he steps into the next best subway to go home.

He discovered after a few minutes that this underground something is wrong. One of the passengers is reading a newspaper one day old and the underground no longer holds, but is getting faster. The other passengers are to be found in a peculiar trance state. Pratt recognizes that it is the lost subway No. 86 seeks the cab of the car to where it meets the wanted, Mistein. This opened him that accelerate the released energy of the train through the process to an infinite speed and this would occur in an unspecified described new stage. In the final scene, are to be seen in the Pratt and Mistein, the train is so fast that the platforms already seem to fly by in slow motion.

Some time later, one of the metro stations to report to Director Biasi, claiming there was suddenly an empty subway surfaced. Biasi can confirm that this is the missing subway 86. The city leaders that are called in lay near him, the train just to go to a camp and forget the history. Biasi explored the train and place on the bottom of the notebook Pratt, in which he has left a message that he finds himself on a journey with no return.

The film ends with the phone the metro station rings and Biasi hear in passing that something has been lost - the dialogue compensates the the opening scene, in which the lost object was the U -Bahn No. 86.
