The MoEDAL detector ( for English Monopole and Exotics Detector at the LHC ) is an extension of the LHCb experiment. The particle detector is designed for the search for magnetic monopoles, microscopic black holes and relics of supersymmetric particles.

Experimental Setup

The detector is in its final configuration of an array of 400 modules (total area 250 square meters). The modules consist of two aluminum plates, which include a stack of ten superposed plastic sheets. Flies through a particle, these plates, it leaves characteristic traces in the plastic. To evaluate the plates, they are removed and examined in a combination of chemical etching processes and microscopic methods. The detector was designed for long-term measurements.
