Moffat County, Colorado

The Moffat County is a county located in the state of Colorado of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Craig.

In Moffa County is also the major part of Dinosaur National Monument.

Geography

The County in the northwest corner of Colorado is bordered to the north by Wyoming, on the west by Utah and has an area of ​​12,305 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Sweetwater County, Carbon County, Routt County, Rio Blanco County, Uintah County and Daggett County.

History

Moffat County was established in 1911 from parts of Routt County. The county was named after David H. Moffat, an industrialist from Colorado. Meanwhile Railway Company Denver, Northwestern & Pacific tried to build a route from Denver to Salt Lake City. 1913 finally reached the reorganized railroad Denver & Salt Lake Railroad their final stop Craig. This was less than half of the originally planned route up to Salt Lake City.
