Mohamed Aly

Mohamed Aly Reda ( born February 19, 1975 in Cairo ) is a retired Egyptian boxer in the super heavyweight division. Aly won silver medals at the Pan-African Games in 2003 and the Olympics in 2004.

After Aly had failed in 1997 and 1999 at the Military World Championships in the quarterfinals, he won at the 2003 Pan-African Games in Abuja ( Nigeria), the silver medal when he defeated local hero Gbenga Oluokun on points. With this success, he was able to qualify for participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

2004 him in Athens succeeded the great sensation when he could move against favored opponents in the final of the highest weight class with three surprising victories and thus won Olympic silver: in the second round struck Aly Carlos Takam from Cameroon, in the quarterfinals of the Lithuanians Jaroslavas Jaksto as well as in the semi-finals the Cuban Michel Lopez just on points.
