Mohammed Shabir

Schabir Muhammad (Arabic محمد شبير; * 1946 in Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip ) is a Palestinian scientists in November 2006 and was a candidate for the office of Prime Minister of the Palestinian territories.

Schabirs father was one of the leading members of the Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza. Schabir himself studied in Alexandria and at West Virginia University in the U.S., where he received his doctorate in microbiology. In 1990, he became president of the Islamic University in Gaza and held this post until his retirement in 2005.

Schabir is close to Hamas, but without officially being a member. However, he also maintains good relations with the Fatah movement. Therefore, he was taken by Hamas as a successor Ismail Haniyyas this week. Because of the general political situation but were dashed these intentions. Little is known about his political views, as he has expressed this as good as ever.

Schabir is married and has six children. His wife is deputy minister for women in the current Hamas government.
