Mohill

Mohill ( Irish: Maothail, also Maothail Manacháin ) is a town in County Leitrim in north central inland of the Republic of Ireland.

The place

Maothail Manacháin, the Irish name of the town refers to St. Manachán, the 500 -founded a monastery here. The remains of a round tower are preserved on the site yet.

Today Mohill is a rural center of town dominated by agriculture, by local industry and tourism. In the near Mohill located Lough Rynn Castle in the early 19th century, which is now used as a 4 -star hotel.

Situation and Demography

Mohill located in the southern part of the county Leitrim, about 15 km southeast of Carrick -on-Shannon and 7 km east of the N4 road, on a hillside above the River Rinn.

The population of Mohill was determined during Census 2006, 931 persons for the place and 1,350 persons for the urban area. In contrast to the urban area, the population of the city between 2002 and 2006 has grown significantly (from 786 to 931 people).
