Moiry is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Moiry is located on 625 m above sea level. Level, 16 km north of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The scattered village stretches along a sloping to the southeast slope, at the foot of the Jura, above the valley of the upper Venoge, in the Vaud Mittelland.

Population

With 272 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Moiry is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 94.6 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.5 % and 1.0 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Moiry amounted in 1900 to 219 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1960 to 147 people, a significant population increase was observed again.

Economy

History

The municipal area of Moiry there were several iron-melting furnace during the Roman period. The first documentary mention of the place was in the 11th century under the name of Villa Mauriaco and Moriaco.
