Mojave is a census -designated place in Kern County, California, United States. In the census of 2010 a population of 4,238 was found. Mojave is located 80 km (50 miles) east of Bakersfield, California. The city is located in the southwestern corner of the Mojave Desert.

History

Founded as a construction camp was the place for the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, as this was built in 1876 the rail link between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Where the first passenger arrived the day in Mojave, August 8, 1876, is referred to as the birthday of the city. The train to Bakersfield leads over the Tehachapi Loop in the Tehachapi Mountains.

The city also served as Bauzentrale the Los Angeles aqueduct. The first post office opened also in 1876. The city was named after Yuma - speaking living in the southwestern United States Yuma Indians. A significant role in the history of Mojave has taken the aviation industry. In Mojave also the developer of aircraft prototypes Scaled Composites is located.

Mojave is located on the routes of California State Route 14 ( " Antelope Freeway ," direction Los Angeles and northern Nevada) and California State Route 58 (towards mid- California, Arizona and Southern Nevada). The city has an unoccupied platform without ticket counter, the next manned station is located in Bakersfield.
