Mokhotlong is the capital of the district of Mokhotlong in Lesotho. It is located in the mountainous east of Lesotho near the river of the same in 2200 meters above sea level. The name means place of the smooth neck Rapp.

History

Mokhotlong was founded in 1905 as a settlement for a police post. Long the site for his seclusion was known. In 1948 there was the first scheduled flights from Maseru to Mokhotlong. Until then, the place was supplied by donkey caravans over the Sani Pass. The population in 2004 was about 7,000.
