Province

Mokopane ( Potgietersrus to 2003 ) is a town in the municipality Mogalakwena, Waterberg District, in the South African province of Limpopo. It is situated on 1204 meters above sea level. 2011, the 30 151 inhabitants of the city.

History

The city was founded by the Voortrekkers and after one of their leaders, Piet Potgieter, named. The name was changed to Mokopane in 2003. Furthermore, it is home to the isiNdebele speaking tribes. Four kingdoms are located near the town of Langa ( eMapela ) Gegana ( eMshade ) Lebelo ( eGarasvlei ) and Langa ( eBakenburg ). There are also numerous Pedi and Sotho.

Economy

The Mokopane area is one of South Africa's most productive agricultural areas. Wheat, tobacco, cotton, beef, maize, peanuts and Zitrusgewäche are produced there. The Zebediela Citrus -Gut, 55 kilometers south-east, is one of the largest citrus farms in the southern hemisphere.

Furthermore, the area is rich in minerals, with the mining of platinum, diamonds and granite as the main sources of income.

Attractions

Only two hours drive from Gauteng province located, the city acts as a destination and stopover for travelers heading Botswana, Zimbabwe and Kruger National Park. The area is typical bushveld with many acacia trees and aloes and is situated in the Waterberg Mountains.

The Arend Dieperink museum depicts the history of the city, from apes to humans at Makapansgat, San drawings and early activities in the area up to the First and Second Boer War and recent events.

Since 2006, the Makapansgat paleontological space, in addition to other sites in South Africa, part of UNESCO world heritage sites. Located 15 kilometers north of Mokopane.
