Moku Manu

Moku Manu ( Bird Iceland English, German "Bird Island" ) is a small, uninhabited island of the archipelago of Hawaii. It is only about 1.3 kilometers off the east coast of the island of Oahu, near the Mokapu Peninsula and is part of the Honolulu County.

The island is about 410 m long, 210 m wide and has an area of 8.4 ha ( 0.084 km ²) on. It is of volcanic origin and rises steeply from the Pacific Ocean to a height of 62 meters above the sea. Because of the steep cliffs and the strong current, a landing with boats is considered almost impossible.

On Moku Manu breed eleven different species of seabirds, including more rare, such as the Christmas Shearwater ( Puffinus Nativitatis ) or Bulwersturmvogel ( Bulweria bulwerii ). The island is, therefore, how many other small islands of Hawaii and a Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary ( bird sanctuary ) and may not be entered.
