Moldova River

The Moldova in Romania

The Moldova at Cornu Lucii

The Moldova ( Moldova German, not to be confused with the Vltava River in the Czech Republic ) is a river in north- eastern Romania, and rises in the Bukovina region of Suceava County. The river flows near the village of Roman in Neamţ county in the Seret River. The river has a length of 237 km, a catchment area of 4315 km ², and ( shortly before its confluence with the Siret ) a water flow of 32 m³ / s

The former Principality of Moldavia probably got its name from this river. The name of today's State of Moldova ( Moldova) is also derived from this river name, although its territory will not be affected.

In the area of the upper reaches of the Vltava River there are numerous Romanian Orthodox monasteries, which are usually referred to as the Moldavian monasteries. Eight of these monasteries and churches were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1993.
