Molefi Kete Asante

Molefi Kete Asante, originally Arthur Lee Smith Jr. ( born August 14, 1942 in Valdosta, Georgia, United States) is an American author and Afrozentrist. His book Afrocentricity coined the term Afrocentrism. Asante is considered a " protégé " of Cheikh Anta Diop.

Asante was born as one of 16 children in a Sudanese- Nigerian family. He studied at Pepperdine University and at the University of California at Los Angeles. At the age of 30 he became a professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo. At Temple University, he is a professor of African American Studies.
