Molemole Local Municipality

The municipality (Local Municipality ) Molemole is part of the district of Capricorn in the Limpopo Province in South Africa. It includes 37 individual settlements in 13 Wards. Their name is derived from the name of a mountain range in the language of Tlokwa.

Covering an area of ​​3.347 km ² live approximately 109 440 inhabitants ( 2001). The administrative center is the city Mogwadi (formerly Dendron ). Maite Monica Mohale is the mayor.

Location

Molemole is located about 60 km northeast of Polekwane on the National Road 1 to Zimbabwe in the north. The provincial road P94 / 1 ( R521 ) runs through the municipality and connects it with Botswana in the west.

Demography

According to the census of 2001, the 109 440 residents living in 27 889 households, which corresponds to a household size of 3.92 persons statistically. 35 % of the population are under 15 years old, another 33.88 % 15-34 years. Public utilities

76 % of the population have access to drinking water in a vicinity of less than 200 meters from their homes. This is obtained from local groundwater, but the municipal administration estimates this source as unreliable. Only 20% have access to sanitation facilities such as latrines and sufficient. Approximately 75 % operate electrical equipment, 70 % have a connection to the power grid. There is a hospital, six smaller stationary clinics and two mobile clinics. Economy

The unemployment rate is 54%, this is accompanied by the absence of large parts of the male population as migrant workers. 46 % of households lived in 2001 less than 1100 border ( about 116 euros ) and were therefore entitled to welfare.

According to the local government, the potential of the municipality lies particularly in agriculture ( potatoes, tomatoes, wild attitude ) and in forestry. The exploitation of metals and minerals that are present in diverse municipality in smaller deposits, takes place only to a small extent. The mining of sand is often operated without permission.
